…they are in roman script above the staff. Expressions, on the other hand, are indeed italic and are placed below the staff. I've added the new style to distinguish between the two.

Annotations (including performance directions, such as 'pizz.') should not be italic; they are in roman script above the staff. Expressions, on the other hand, are indeed italic and are placed below the staff. I've added the new style to distinguish between the two.
For our practical considerations, ficta should not be italic either.
